  1. Hi Susan 🙂 What a grand idea 🙂 The thing I love maybe most of all about having found the Christian genre–past glorifying God Who I adore–is all the awesome Christian authors I have met. ACFW conferences has been a great way to meet face-to-face and get a real hug! And from one year to the next, you can ‘keep up’ and grow closer through wonderful social media 🙂

And in the midst of my first historical romance debuting, I met all the wonderful folks at Southern Writers Magazine–which I love and would like to become a more active partner with 🙂 All authors must market their books. I’m blessed to have always loved marketing, but here’s one question for you. What would you suggest for an author to do to help at SWM on a regular basis?

And I’d be interested to know who you got SWM off the ‘drawing pad’ so to speak and into existence. I can’t imagine it happening without some help from above. Would you share your testimony?

    • Hi Caryl,
Thanks for commenting. We at Southern Writers are so delighted to have met you and look forward to getting to know you better.

Congratulations on your historical romance debut. That is so exciting.

You are right, all authors do have to spend time marketing their books.

Your question about suggestions for authors to help SWM on a regular basis, did you mean how you can help us market you?

If so, Southern Writers has several venues for authors to promote and market their books. And our staff is good about helping
whenever an author needs some suggestions. These venues, MicNite, Take Five and Must Reads TV is free for our member/subscribers.

MicNite is like a bulletin board where authors can put new covers, descriptions of books, press releases, book signings, etc.
Take Five is where the authors can upload an audio reading excerpt from their books. One of the great things about Take Five, is you can
space out your readings…where you get attention for the book for months. Again our staff helps you with that and planning it out.
Our Must Read TV is great for uploading your book trailers, videos of interviews, and keeps you in the spotlight.

Another great way for authors in marketing and promoting is working with SWM to get out to your Social Media, websites, blogs, emails when they
interview you for the magazine or for this new Authors Visiting blog—we supply graphics for our authors to do that. It helps bring attention
to the author and to SWM.

We always try to have a presence at all Writing conferences, so if you know one is coming up, you can let us know about it, to make sure we are there.

All in all, the more an author participates with SWM the more we can bring attention to the author and their books.

We are currently working on some new promotion ideas, so check back often.

As to how SWM came off the ‘drawing pad’ well that is a story unto itself. But I can tell you that God laid on my heart
to help authors market and promote their books and get good words out into the secular world. When I told God I would do
what he wanted me to do, He dropped the “Idea” of a magazine for authors into my heart, one that would showcase the authors
      and their books.

Then he brought me two wonderful partners to work with whose hearts He filled with the same desires. Doyne Phillips and Gary Fearon. We made
the decision in March 2011 to do this and God opened every door that needed to be opened, bringing the right people and we went live on
July 1, 2011 with an online magazine and a magazine in print. Then he brought us Annette Mastron to head up our writers blog,
Suite T, which with God’s help has grown to over 10,000 hits a day. Only God can do things like this…To start an online and printed magazine in three months
just doesn’t happen unless you have doors opened for you.

So that’s the condensed version, Caryl. We have been privileged to meet and work with some of the nicest people in the world. We have promoted over
      800 authors.

Our mission is to help authors promote their books and themselves.

      Thanks for asking about us.

Let us know how we can help you. Come back often and visit here.

  2. Thanks again for letting me help launch your new blog, Susan–and for making me the cover girl for the latest issue of the magazine! I just learned that DECEIVED is on the CBA bestseller list for November, which is very exciting. I hope readers will watch for my next novel, too–BURIED SECRETS. It’s Book 1 in my Men of Valor series, which features three brothers with Special Forces backgrounds. It will be out in April.

Can’t wait to find out more about it, and the release date. Let us know when it will debut. Again, thank you for your visit and being in the magazine. It was a pleasure.
